Know your skin type: Part 2 – Oily Skin, tips and advice

Congested pores, dull complexion, uneven skin, whiteheads and blackheads are actually signs of clogged skin and it does not happen only on young people but also on adults. Also known as open comedones, blackheads are actually small plugs that seal the pores. They are made of oils, dead cells and sebum, due to exposure to the air, the plug darkens. On the other hand, whiteheads stay under the skin surface and covered by debris, so they remain lighter in color.

Whiteheads, blackheads, and clogged pores occur due to a few factors, such as accumulated toxins, excess fat and sebum. In addition, pollution, dead skin cells, make-up and dirt can enter the open pores, which continuously produce sebum and oil. Always cleanse, tone and moisturise daily, as well as, exfoliating and using a mask at least once a week. My top tips for oily skin are;

– Always remove your make-up before going to bed.

– Make sure your moisturiser is nice and light and not too heavy.

– When buying a foundation, make sure its a matte foundation, as this will help prevent shine.

– Using a mattefying setting powder will help your foundation to stay in place and also prevent shine.

– Blotting paper is a handy little addition to have in your handbag for using throughout the day in helping to remove excess oil.
